WHO I AM + WHAT I LOVE PROJECT…

“Did I not exist as a tween?” I think to myself as I flip the plastic pages of my parents’ family photo album. One of the few photos that exists of me as a preteen is a traditional school photo.

You know the one, that head and shoulders pose with the cheesy grin. My teeth are slightly too big for my face and my hair isn’t combed. Ah, sweet innocence.

Babies are so cute, new and chubby. Toddlers have those big, bright eyes and lets face it, they just do the darnedest thing. But those tween ages are often forgotten. At ages 10-13, kids aren’t children anymore but aren’t quite teens.

I’m making it my personal mission to capture those lost preteen years. The goal is to help tweens look and feel beautiful and have unshakable confidence in themselves when they hit junior high.

In comes the “Who I am” project

We are starting the “Who I am” photography project to fill in the forgotten photo years while enriching the lives of preteens.

The main goal is to make preteens look and feel beautiful and be confident in who they are because let’s face it – transitioning to Middle school is hard!

This experience is perfect for boys and girls, ages 10-13, in the Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Evansdale, Hudson, Jusep, New Harford Iowa area.

3 Outfits + 1 Portrait Session = A HUGE Boost in Your Child’s Self-Esteem…

We’ll ask you to bring 3 outfits:

– The first is chosen by your child and represents how she sees herself.

– The second represents something she loves (could be sports, dance, band uniform)

– You get to pick the 3rd outfit because you know we all see our kids differently than they see their changing selves!

We’ll ask you and her a few questions, then combine the text and photographs to create one impactful piece of art.

Just imagine how wonderful she’ll feel when she sees the positive stories you’ve shared?

Why “Who I am, What I love…”?

We want to capture the personality of these tweens and record the last stage of their childhood before they become young ladies.

We want them to realize their true beauty so that they are confident in themselves before they hit Junior High.  Imagine the impact a single beautiful image can do for your tween’s self image.

what our clients are saying…

  • I'm exploring new job and career options and needed a new headshot. In the past, I've too often found headshot sessions to be stressful and ultimately disappointing. With April, though, my photo session was easy, verging on relaxing, and my selection session a few days later was similarly stress free. April has a gift for capturing people as they really are, and I was delighted to end up with a headshot that looks like me, not some overly posed and strainedly smiling stranger, and that conveys my personality. I highly recommend her!

  • Ready to assist on short notice... I recently found myself needing a dependable and experienced photographer in the El Paso area on behalf of a business event there, and after many phone calls found April at El Paso Portraits. She was immediately upbeat, positive and ready to assist on short notice. She told me about her military background and indeed she was early to the job and super well prepared, going beyond the call of duty in terms of the details and proceeded to make a very good impression along the way!!
